My best friend Carrie and I are back at Gilcrease Orchard to pick out pumpkins and other delicious farm goods!
We didn’t go last year, but we are finally back and thankfully, the weather at this time of year was friendlier than our previous visit.
It was also during this visit that we fully explored the farm.
Our first stop was the pumpkins.
A lone pumpkin sitting perfectly at the start of a patch.
The first few rows was already picked through so we perused the rows further down the middle.
Carrie was somehow able to lift this massive pumpkin into the wheel barrow and from there, it was a full body workout hauling our wheelbarrow around the farm.
We also picked some apples! There were two kinds, but we had a lot of the granny smith apples. They just go so well with peanut butter or caramel sauce for snacking.
Now comes the part where Carrie and I explored the rest of the farm.
They have an enclosure for this desert tortoise, and it was enthusiastically saying hello to everyone.
He came out to say hi to everyone!
They also have a coop, where we saw many different species of fluffy chickens. And when you come around to the other side, they had informational boards where we learned more about them. Unfortunately, the wire around the coop made it difficult to take photos of the fluffy chickens.
On the way to the check out station, they had a section dedicated for mini pumpkins and other vegetables from neighboring farms as well.
Overall, Carrie and I had a lot of fun going around the farm! We were so happy and grateful to be able to visit again.
We stopped by my house and we separated our goodies before saying goodbye for the day.
Here's a full list of our haul:
- Pumpkins
- Mini-pumpkins
- A zucchini (we only found one that was okay enough to pick)
- Squashes
- Sunflowers
- Apples
- Popcorn - made on site; this is the best popcorn ever!
- Apple cider doughnuts - flavors: regular sugared, cinnamon sugared, and cinnamon cream cheese
- Olive oil (cold-pressed in small batches)
We're aiming to go again during spring, just to see experience what they offer during that season.
